Mrs. DISHNER from Atkins VA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Bringing Life to Our Library

My students need a mobile book storage island to learn how to select books in a way that isn't overwhelming.

My Students

My elementary students are hard working and thirsty learners. They come from a beautiful area of the country, but we struggle economically in our region with many students living in poverty. Limited funding by local and state government makes it difficult for us to have everything that we need in order to function optimally. Unemployment is high and we have many students on free and reduced-price lunch. Poor economic conditions should not stop these wonderful children from having the tools they need to learn and be successful. The need is there, but the funding just isn't.

By providing my students with the tools they need, who knows the great heights they can soar to.

I long to be able to help them achieve the potential that they possess.

My Project

I want to build a vibrant library that is accessible to all students. Students are scheduled for library visits one day a week, but that isn't always possible. Sometimes snow days or other interruptions to our schedule keep them from being able to come.

On days when my students can't come to the library, the mobile book storage island will allow me to take the library to them.

I want my elementary children to get excited about selecting books and becoming stronger readers. I want them to develop a love for books and to look forward to their library visits-even if the library is on wheels.
