Remember when you sat down with your friends and played games? Remember working out who would be the "car" or who would get the "shoe"? Or figuring out your strategy only to have the player ahead of you foil your attempts, so you had to work out another plan? My students need these experiences.
My students need a variety of board games so they can interact with friends and adults in a positive, informal, and fun setting.
Board games will provide the opportunities my students need to reinforce their social and learning skills in a positive environment. Many of my students are discouraged easily and afraid to try new skills. By providing them with board games, I hope to encourage their creativity and build upon their academic skills.
My Project
Aspiration, hope, success, disappointment, winning, defeat, integrity, honesty, friendship, ethics, tolerance, sharing, patience, sportsmanship, reliability, competition, problem-solving, observant, attentive, accomplishment, goals . . . . all of these words describe traits that are taught through playing board games with other people. Board games provide hands on learning experiences that will foster skills and qualities that my students will carry with them throughout their lives.
When we are having fun, we are more open to learning.
When we are having fun, we want to keep doing whatever we are doing. When we are having fun learning, we want to share our experiences and our new skills with others.
