This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The Lions are ROARing with love for reading. They are striving everyday to improve their literacy skills. Our school is a Title I school in Northglenn, CO. We have approximately 425 students and about 70% of the students are on free and reduced lunch. Our classroom libraries have not been updated for around 15 years through school funds. The only new books that students have access to are purchased from personal funds by the home room teacher. This means that many of the books our students are reading are outdated or falling apart. With outdated books our students are not given opportunities to be matched with books they love.

All students deserve access to new and diverse books!

Our goal is to replenish nine classroom libraries with updated, diverse, engaging, and relevant books!

My Project

This project will fund nine classroom libraries, third through fifth grade and will rejuvenate the heart of the classroom. Students interests levels will be sparked as they enjoy the smell of a new book and read about characters like themselves.

Students will be excited to crack open a fresh book from their classroom library and inspired to read an engaging book independently.

This new library will provide book access to all students while building a strong reading community. With these new and updated books, teachers will be able to craft engaging literacy lessons to build excitement around reading and book discussions. This will allow teachers to make purchases towards other needs in their classroom.
