Help me give my students leveled books that actually meet their needs and prove to my students that they are worth more than 20+ year old books found scattered throughout our school.

My Project

I am the lucky teacher of 18 third grade students in West Baltimore City who have been impacted (as so many others have) by the Pandemic in their reading journey. Unfortunately, a third of my students have been passed to the third grade while still reading at a Kindergarten level. As such, I believe small group instruction centered around deliberate reading and reading strategies is the most imperative part of our busy daily schedule.

Having the ability to have NEW books that are categorized based on reading levels makes planning for instruction much more succinct and geared towards students specific learning needs.

Scouring for books that focus on specific reading strategies learned in small group throughout our school building is not only time-consuming, but highly ineffective. As a result, I have resorted to printing out fluency passages from online. This strategy has proved helpful, but doesn't resemble hard-copy books. I want my students to have the ability to find the joy of reading in a high-expectation while not overly-demanding environment.

I have asked for book sets ranging from 1st to 4th grade as an accurate depiction of the range of scholar's present reading abilities.
