I teach a diverse group of Middle School Engineering students, who get excited by the challenges of the world.
Many of our students have relatives that struggle with daily life and our unit problems are designed around these struggles.
In order to solve these problems, our students collaborate and come up with meaningful original solutions. They form many solutions they communicate with each other which is most meaningful and work together to solve the problems. Helping my students realize that they have the power to solve some very complex world issues, will change their lives!
My Project
When we imagine things that we need, most of the time we are only able to imagine them. With a 3D printer, we will be able to actually create our ideas. Working in a 21st-century engineering lab requires 21st-century engineering tools that give us the capability to bring our ideas to life. In the field of engineering, our goal is to create solutions to real-world problems that are actually usable, and made practically. Making the move from prototypes to usable products we are able to increase the likelihood of our ideas being adopted into production-ready models.
In years past prototyping has been limited to found materials, such as cardboard and paper, and other less permanent materials.
Using a 3D Printer and filament, we will be able to create working models of the different solutions that student groups come up with. Using these materials our students will be able to create permanent usable models that are professional, which increases the probability that they will be adopted and moved into production.
Project Lead the Way students are given a unique opportunity to help a person who is in need through creative problem-solving. Working in groups, students design and build the solutions and then present them to stakeholders for feedback. The best possible way to create these solutions is through the use of cutting edge technology (3D Printing), which gives the user an accurate representation of how the final product will appear.
