In my classroom, I have some amazing, ready to learn third graders! They are curious, hard-working, and eager to try new things. They love hands-on and trying new things. Did I say they are eager and ready to learn?!? They LOVE exploring and finding new ways to learn! Virtual experiences would rock their world!! They would absolutely LOVE learning about history!
My classroom is student-centered.
My classroom encourages collaboration, open communication, and project-based learning.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. We are a Title I school so many of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Without these virtual trips, our students cannot experience the many different regions of our state, museums, national parks, battlefields, monuments, etc.
My Project
Edger Dale’s Cone of Experience has shown that the average person only remembers 20% of what they hear and 30% of what they see, but up to 90% of what they personally experience. As a result, lessons that incorporate virtual resources provide a richer and deeper experience that will have more of an impact on the learning experience of students. The Social Studies Content Interventionist for our school has been collecting and creating 360 photos and videos that align and support our 3rd grade social studies standards for South Carolina History. My students will now be able to explore different regions of South Carolina. From the Atlantic shores of the Coastal Region to the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains, students will be able to experience the varying land forms in South Carolina. Students will also be able to explore our cities, national parks, battlefields, and museums to gain a deeper appreciation of South Carolina’s rich history and contributions to our nation’s story.
