Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach third grade at Valle Vista in San Jose. In my school 40% of our students are English Language Learners. I would like to develop a video library in my class to teach important concepts, events and people in history. This would help me bring history to life in my classroom.
In California, children must know the histories of important local and national landmarks, symbols, and essential documents and be able to describe the lives of American heroes who took risks to secure our freedoms. The video library would be a wonderful resource to assist students in understanding these important events and people. The videos I have requested for our grade level focus on George Washington, Christopher Columbus, Paul Revere, the Constitution, the American Revolution and more.
The videotapes would also motivate students to understand U.S. history better. By having the opportunity to see these people and events acted out, they would better grasp their significance to our world. This video library would be a worthwhile tool for students of all ages as an instructional and motivational tool.
Thank you for considering this proposal and please help us form our students into productive citizens!
