Bringing History Alive in the Library

Help me give my students this amazing experience of bringing history alive in our elementary library with jumbo dinosaurs and fake plants to transform the library along with hands-on experiences like fossil kits, matching cards, puzzles, etc!

My Project

My students are elementary students in a school in Iowa. The school is located in a small town but does not stop my students from becoming more independent and expanding their interests, passions, and strengths. There is a variety of ability levels in this group but that doesn't hold them back! We are back in the library and students need a little encouragement to dive back into reading full force!

Imagine an elementary of around 400 students walking into the library and seeing it transformed into a prehistoric retreat!

These students are book-loving, curious, avid learners. I am the librarian for our district. Our library is an essential source of books, resources, and STEM central for these students.

Students will experience little dinosaur toy figures roaming nightly and getting into mischievous messes based on the book "What the Dinosaurs Did Last Night" by Refe and Susan Tuma. Students will get hands-on experiences of fossil kits, matching cards, puzzles, and so much more! With technology at our fingertips, sometimes creativity and wonder are lost. Adding a little mystery and wonder will go a long way with creating these amazing experiences for these students!
