Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am nearing the end of my first-year teaching at a low income/high poverty school. I teach 2nd grade. As heartbreaking as it is, most of my students are faced with many challenges in and out of the classroom.
All of my students deserve to be healthy and happy.
Though I cannot control what happens outside of the classroom, I can certainly control what happens inside. My students come to class feeling loved, supported, and engaged. I have a wide range of students in my classroom. Some students are highly intelligent and some have developmental delays. This does not stop me from providing them the education that they need.
I love all of my students, and they each bring joy to my life as a teacher.
I look forward to building a positive classroom during my first year of teaching.
My Project
Harry Potter changed my life when I was in 5th grade. My love of reading grew and grew with every page and magical creature. I want my students to experience the same magic that I felt when I was in school.
"The wand chooses the wizard".
Having the illustrated Harry Potter books in my classroom would be so wonderful. Illustrated books will allow my 2nd graders to see the wonderful world of Harry Potter and connect the text to pictures.
No matter how old I get, I enjoy reading Harry Potter. For my students to have that same feeling makes me ecstatic. Having these items is just one way that I can show them my excitement and get them excited about reading and expressing themselves.
