Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in the fifth grade and have been working hard and are getting ready to head off to middle school. I have been teaching for 16 years and I am in my third year teaching fifth grade. I am amazed at the determination and drive my students have this year. My students are full of energy and are excited to learn new things. They want to be challenged and have new adventures. My students come from many different backgrounds and economic statuses.
There is no better time to bring flex seating into my classroom to really allow students a chance to choose how they can learn best.
Aa a math teacher for 2 classes, I need to make sure that I am reaching all students with multiple ways of teaching math. Math strategies, manipulatives, learning styles vary for each child. I want to make sure my classroom is filled with support for each student to be successful math students.
My Project
Being in an ICT math classroom, I am constantly looking for new ways to keep my students engaged. My school has been working very hard to have students work on growing their mindset about math. We want students to push their learning and persevere through the many problems they solve throughout the year.
Giving my students the ability to choose where in the classroom they want to sit and learn, will help them become successful learners.
Students love sitting on the floor, or in different seats around the room. They need a table and/or clipboards to lean on to make sure their work can be neat. These items will also help them to focus more on their work and not balancing their books on their laps. Students have begun to love the flex seating options in our room, but we need more items to complete the look.
Students seem to be more engaged when they can make choices in our classroom. Choosing where to sit is a big one. These items will allow them to work in groups and have a steady place for their papers and books to be, so they can focus on the work in front of them.
