Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

One of the most compelling things about social studies is the link between the past and the present. With this in mind, I would like to have newspapers available for students in my high school global studies courses to help them make important connects as to why we are studying the past. Newspapers will allow students to make the connections in the classroom, as well as provide good sources for research and finally it will hopefully promote a worldly attitude in my students. Working the South Bronx, it is often hard for students to envision what else is going on in the world and see any reason for studying any of it. By teaching them how to read, understand and use a newspaper and news magazines throughout school projects I hope to enhance the understanding of both subject matter and student appreciation for social studies and the world around them.
