Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every year, my classroom fills up with bright, young, vibrant, enthusiastic, eager to learn "middle schoolers." Some of my students are gifted and talented, some are special education, some are dyslexic, some have mental health issues, and some are considered "at risk." Though my students come from all walks of life and are an extremely diverse group of kiddos, they do have one thing in common.
Regardless of their increasingly different backgrounds, they are ALL EQUALLY AMAZING CHILDREN!
I learn each and every day from my students, just as much as they learn from me, and as I internalize more and more about their needs with regard to their individual learning styles, I've become awakened to this fact. Their acquisition of knowledge is simply unparalleled when they are exposed to more hands-on, visually stimulating learning opportunities and environments.
My Project
Creativity, hands-on visual learning, and technology all combine with the introduction of a Cricut in the classroom. In my English language arts classes, I am always looking for innovative ways to make learning more fun and engaging for my students while still ensuring that all content skills and objectives are met. This requires taking risks with my lessons, having faith in my ideas, and maintaining a genuine passion for teaching that resonates with my students long after they leave the comfort of my room.
Having a Cricut in my classroom will give me the opportunity to enhance my students' ELA instruction by extending their knowledge to include the exploration of digital design concepts that can then be used for the creation of visually stimulating projects and activities.
It is so important that our students learn more than just "content" while in school. We should also be teaching them the skills needed to be successful in today's ever-growing society. Some of these 21st Century Skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, technology literacy, and productivity all have the opportunity to be explored with the introduction of a Cricut to my classroom. Your contribution to this project can help turn this "opportunity" into a "reality" for my students.
