I teach a middle school class of students with high support needs in a low-income urban school. The number one goal of our class is to give our students a typical school experience with Math, Language Arts, and anything else a general education student would get. However, with various degrees of reading skills core content becomes difficult with traditional textbooks. Not to mention trying to hit the state standards.
This is why I am requesting titles from Don Johnston's Core Content series. I am asking for 5 titles that touches on material that many of my student miss out on because of their struggles with a traditional textbook. It allows our students to become interactive with a computer and to access the core content from different subjects. It truly opens a whole world for our students. The goal of our class is two-fold: give our students a rich classroom experience and make them as independent as possible. This would allow us to do this with reading and the core content at a new level.
