Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have an awesome group of 6th graders! They are part of the reason why Compton, CA is on the way to a positive future.
Middle school can be a difficult transition for any student, and many of my students are also dealing with the kinds of issues that would be difficult for most adults.
Still, they make the choice each day to show up to class and do their best despite problems they may be facing outside of school. As a teacher, I feel it is my duty to continually guide these children to become the best version of themselves they can be!
My Project
My students are in need of colored pencils and pens to brighten their science work! They will be used daily in our interactive notebooks, as well as in our weekly projects.
Research has shown that the use of colors in note taking greatly benefits students, especially the English language learners.
Our students need all the extra help available so they can improve as note-takers both now and in the future. When we use our interactive notebooks in both math and science, the color coding draws emphasis to key ideas and vocabulary. Additionally, students are able to express their own creativity with illustrations that show their understanding of the concepts.
