Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children love a good book as much as adults do. In order for kids to better comprehend stories, finding age-appropriate activities that go with the books are essential.
I have the privilege of teaching kindergarten in a low-income school in North Texas.
Many of my students do not speak english at home. Some of my English speakers have poor grammar skills and a limited vocabulary as well. Modeling good grammar and reading books to my students will help improve these skills.
My Project
My students need several books like "Fish Is Fish" and "Sheep in a Jeep" that go with lesson plans provided by a teacher's magazine, and they also need a complete listening center of phonemic awareness activities. I subscribe to a magazine for kindergarten teachers. One of the things I love about this magazine is that it features well known children's books in each publication. These features include activities incorporating math, writing, sometimes science, and art projects associated with the book. Many of my students do not speak English at home. They need hands-on activities that reinforce the books that we have read to help improve their language skills and comprehension. These activities help them to do that. I am asking for 14 books such as, "Sheep in a Jeep," "The Relatives Came," and "Bear Snores On." In addition to the books, I am also asking for a listening center that has a phonemic awareness lesson for each letter of the alphabet and a set of sorting/pocket chart activities for literacy groups.
I am so fortunate to love my job.
One of the reasons I love my job is because I love my students like they were my own. Please help me fill my reading area and lesson plans with some amazing books and activities. Thank you for adding some great resources to my literacy groups. These young minds deserve the best materials for their classroom. Thank you for providing them.
