Help me give my students puppets to go along with our "old favorite" books. We love acting out books because we are avid readers and we will use them as we retell the stories in our book clubs.
Our school is in a welcoming diverse community. What we love most about our students is how they interact with one another through games, work and play. I am fortunate to have grown up in the same community and the school that I work the same one that I attended kindergarten at and I teach in the very same classroom that I attended Kindergarten in! It is one of my favorite places to be and I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to work where I grew up.
We work very hard to promote community service and kindness projects for the school and to create a place where students learn how wonderful it is when we all work together.
The school and our school district is a diverse, close knit community with a lot of family involvement making it a very special place to work and learn.
My Project
Using puppets will allow our students to bring their favorite story books to life. We will use them in whole group lessons as well as in small book clubs. These puppets will help to foster language skills including vocabulary and narrative understanding. These are the skills that are the basis for comprehension.
Children find deeper meaning in books as they retell them; as they become part of the stories, interacting with materials, the engagement creates a deeper more personal understanding of the stories.
Concrete tools help children become more comfortable when they are retelling stories. The props assist the children in making the stories come to life.
