Help me give my students access to quality literature that they can take home. My students need reading incentives for making progress in their individual reading goals.
MES students are creative learners with enormous hearts. My students are taught to make eye contact and carry on conversations with adults. School wide my students are respectful and kind. We practice these traits daily and because we have eliminated bullying, we can focus on learning together.
Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative.
As English language learners, books are so important to my students and are truly valued. I am the librarian at a K-6 elementary school in a growing area. Our school library is an essential resource for my students. Many of my students do not have access to books at home and rely on our school library to check out high-quality books. Each day students inquire when the newest books by their favorite authors will be added to the library and if they can be first to check out these books. There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in our school.
My Project
Books are the lifeline of learning. Having access to quality literature is becoming more and more scarce in our community. With the technical age and screen time, students rarely make time to read an actual book. The 2019/2020 school year at MES started with a challenge for each student to read at least 40 books by the end of the school year. To my surprise this program took on a life of it's own, and what I thought would be a handful of kids has now grown to 500. 500 Students have accepted the challenge, 500 students are reading. As an incentive to achieve their goal, I offer them a free book when they pass a personal reading goal. Students set goals and push themselves to become lifelong readers. The books in this project will catapult them to the next level of reading. My students are reading machines, and machines need fuel. Help fill us up!
