Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My motto is "Good teachers teach, great teachers INSPIRE." My preschool students are ages 3 to 5 and are homeless or living with relatives. Most of my students are living with limited food, clothes, and shelter. Their parents make 15 thousand dollars or less per year. Most students are living with one parent. Our school has 56 percent Hispanic students and 44 percent African American students. My school is located in a homeless shelter, yet my classroom is their home!
My Project
My students are 4 years old, and most live in a homeless shelter. I would like to give each student a sturdy backpack for school. The backpack provides a sense of ownership of belongings that many of my students lack. The backpack will allow them to carry their homework folder and a change of clothes. I choose Jansport backpacks as they have a strong reputation for durability and an amazing warranty.
My students will benefit from owning a backpack as it will boost their self esteem.
Often homeless children struggle with not having the same possessions as their classmates. This project seeks to give equal opportunity to the entire class with the same backpack. Thank you for your support in giving not only a bag, but a sense of belonging in this world.
