I am currently a fully self-contained special education teacher in a Title I elementary school in Hilo, Hawaii. I have a range of students from kindergarten to 5th grade with all different sorts of disabilities, ranging from genetic disorders, autism, cerebral palsy, and intellectually disabled.
I feel that bringing technology into the classroom will motivate my students to want to come to school everyday.
For my fully self-contained and medically fragile classroom, I want the students to be able to feel comfortable to explore, express and learn through technology.
My Project
I am requesting a laptop, Kindle, Tiggly Learner Kit (an adaptive program for my special needs students) and Kindle case for protection so that I can have the students use it as an adaptive way to create art. I am also requesting printer ink so that my students can print out their artwork that they create with the laptop and kindle.
We need to find creative ways to bring art to life.
Incorporating technology into our classroom is one way that my students will be able to express themselves and bring their artwork to life. I would like to be able to print their adaptable artwork with the ink that I am requesting so that we can add them to our memory books that will be sent home at the end of each school year. By creating these lasting memories, the students will be able to forget about the natural disasters of the volcano erupting miles away.
