Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up." Pablo Picasso.

My students deserve the opportunity to learn about the world and fall in love with learning regardless of their circumstances.

Every morning I am greeted by 24 second-graders, anxious to start their day. I teach in a dual immersion classroom, and my students are on their journey of becoming bi-literate in English and Spanish. Some of them come from homes that, unfortunately, don't have the resources to provide them with opportunities to experience the joys of learning outside of school. They are active, creative, curious and excited to learn.

My Project

Art is a big part of my second grade classroom. My students enjoy creating masterpieces every week. These materials will enhance my students learning and creativity.

I teach a diverse class that needs materials that they can identify themselves with and take ownership of their work.

Students learn best when they can connect to lessons. The multicultural paper, markers, and paint will help students embrace their diversity and see themselves in their work. They often struggle to create self-portraits and images of their families because their final product does not reflect what they see. These materials, though only the beginning in teaching about diversity and acceptance, will be a great step towards building a tighter community in our classroom.
