My Students

In today's society, environmental awareness and sensitivity is of even greater importance. The goal of bringing this class to our high school is to increase student awareness to environmental concerns and give them avenues to explore and problem solve around those concerns.

The student body is a public high school serving a diverse group of students from varied background.

Students come from around the world due to our town's military and corporate enterprises in town, as well as a wealth of individuals whose families has been here for many generations. The prior and background knowledge and experiences provide a spring board for cooperative learning like no other environment. Something I hope will be a strength for AP Environmental Science.

My Project

Science class should be a course of exploration. The materials I am requesting will be the tools of that exploration. Kits, such as the Limnology Water test, Soil Test and Air Quality lab will provide a wealth of material and protocols for testing the chemistry of the those precious resources. Other kits, like Carolina's "Exploring Biodiversity" and "Estimating Population Size" give the resources, but challenge the students to develop their own protocols to explore the science. And other materials, such as the Solar Cooker, Water Treatment Activity Model and the Solar House will give students opportunities to explore and then even test ideas on energy and pollution control.

The goal of this class is to increase awareness and access to why our environment and its resources are so vital, give students the tools to think and problem solve along environmental issues and hopefully have a great experience doing so!
