Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are living in a world of technology; everything is online. My students do not have the resources available to them to learn 21st century skills.
My students are in 8th grade and attend a middle school in central Texas.
My campus is Title I, and my 8th graders live at or below poverty level. I am a science teacher, and I have a lot of passion for what I teach, and I want my students to be successful. The majority of the students I teach do not have ideal lives. They come from broken homes, have parents in and out of prison, are homeless and/or are foster children.
My Project
I am requesting laptop computers for the 2013-2014 school year. These computers are going to change my students' lives for the better in many ways. I plan on incorporating 21st century skills in my classroom next year with 8th grade science. I want my students to become more proficient in computer skills because that is the way that our world functions. I want them to learn how to email professionally, create/use a dropbox account, learn how to use Microsoft word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel. I plan on doing this by making weekly assignments that include technology. I will create an EdModo account where students will have to email me weekly, blog about what they have learned, and every 2 weeks, students will be required to type an essay in Microsoft Word and create a PowerPoint. By doing this, my students will learn 21st century skills that will apply to them their whole lives, and hopefully make the transition into high school and hopefully college easier.
This project will affect my students in many positive ways; it will give them ownership of their work, confidence in their ability to learn something new and engage them in science curriculum.
