This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with 24 amazing third graders who come from an area with high poverty, low socioeconomic status and a lot of trauma. Even in the face of adversity and hardship, these kids have the biggest hearts and are eager to learn Every. Single. Day. My classroom is a safe haven for many of my students. I would love to provide my students experiences in class that they would not have otherwise because of their circumstances. My classroom is a place where we come together to grow our brains, our hearts and our spirits!

My Project

It would be so amazing to have a class set of core literature books that my students could use to build their literacy skills as well as their love of reading.

Because of Winn-Dixie is a story that my students will fall in love with because many of them will be able to relate to Opal's broken heart, her struggles and the friendships she builds along with Winn-Dixie.

My classroom is in dire need of core literature books. Our district reading program consists of paper pamphlets that contain excerpts or single chapters of random books. In following this program, my students will not have read a chapter book for the entire year. Please help me bring real books and real stories back into my students' school experience! Thank you for considering my project and my students!
