Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at the school are one-of-a-kind. They love school just as much as the next child. The one thing that many of the students look forward to is coming to school as a way to escape reality for a little while especially after Hurricane Maria and Irma.
My students come from a low, socio-economic status, the inner-city, are the lowest reading group and have special needs.
I need to do all I can, during school hours, to help these students progress to well-developed, smart young men and women. To effectively teach students in a wide range of levels, I need many resources. Help me bring in the necessary materials to help my students succeed in school.
The majority of the students at the school come from low-economical households. Students and parents do not have the financial means to provide essentials. Since Hurricane Irma, things have become even tighter for parents.
My Project
In our neighborhood, many of the students are dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Many students come to school to escape those issues and look forward to the end of the day when they can play sports or cheer on our different teams.
Students come to school and play after school sports because many cannot afford young private leagues due to financial obligations that their parents have after hurricane Irma.
In order to make it successful, the sports program needs to replace our bleachers and picnic tables that were damaged due to the strong winds of hurricane Irma. Students love to come out and support each other during games but since Irma, they have no place to cheer from and they have not been able to. Since students have no place to sit during games they are no longer being allowed out due to the crowd control issue. I see the difference in our players' spirits. Having their peers there to cheer them on is a great motivator to try their best. Replacing the bleachers, umbrellas, and picnic tables will help our sports teams reach for their full potential with their classmates cheering them on. Help my students get their minds at ease and their spirits up after Hurricane Irma with sports.
