My students need the supplies necessary to explore and observe the development of life inside the classroom. The AeroGarden LED and supplies will make this possible while the bonsai will reflect the delicate nature of life.
This is a class of lifelong learners, contributors of our community, and citizens of the world.
Our class is a multi-age level group of fourth, fifth, and sixth graders working together to create a community in our general education classroom.
Differentiation is the key to their success, embracing each individual's curiosity to explore our world through their own unique cultural lens.
Students come from all over our city, bringing with them their own contributions to the ongoing conversation of learning. Individual, group, and classwide work is used throughout the day to achieve different results in different concepts.
My Project
Bringing the outside inside is a means of connecting our students to real life experiences and explorations while also offering the peace that comes with nature.
These plant supplies will turn our classroom into a living laboratory, providing chances to ask essential questions, generate hypotheses, conducts experiments, and draw conclusions in a real and meaningful way.
Lessons including the basic requirements for life, how changes in climate impact things differently, to the difference between indoor growing and outdoor growing will make these supplies invaluable scientifically and mathematically.
Additionally, bringing a part of nature inside allows students another way to connect to our natural world and our peace within. By growing something like lettuce from start to finish, harvesting it, and then sharing and eating it creates an invaluable and powerful connection between our own accomplishments and our own survival. During the growing process, the very presence of extra plants offer students a peaceful place to focus their attention.
The AeroGarden and it's accompanying supplies are a way to make this all happen. In our northern latitude sunlight quickly becomes a rarity not long after the start of the school year. As such, without growing lights and devices, success rates of plant growth are reduced by orders of magnitude. This artificial light is necessary to nurture the natural life we want to bring inside the room.
