My kindergarten class is made up of a diverse group of students. I have 25 students from a wide variety of backgrounds and they love learning! I teach in a slip schedule which allows for small group instruction. We have a very involved parent community, but with the high cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area our community resources are stretched thin. Hands-on learning is very important for my students to engage with our curriculum and to apply the vigorous NGSS standards. For my English language learners, visual and kinesthetic learning is key!
My Project
Osmo technology is an award winning tool that fosters creativity and problem solving skills through hands-on play. My students are very capable navigating iPads, but we don't have useful tools or apps to support learning. Rather than have these iPads be used for free play, I'm hoping to make my iPads relevant and applicable to the current common core standards.
With the requested Osmo Genius Kit my students will be able to practice letter recognition, spelling, number sense, math skills, critical thinking and spatial awareness.
By purchasing 4 kits I will be able to create a station during my center rotations where students can work at their own pace. Purchasing JLab Audio headphones for each student will provide differentiated learning as each student works independently without distraction. The Genius kit will track individual progress throughout the school year. Whether a student is learning letter names or spelling words and sentences, this technology will meet them at their level and challenge them each appropriately.
I am very thankful to have one Osmo kit already. It is such a valuable resource. I am hoping to purchase four more so that students can use them as practice several times a week. Thank you for your help!
