Help me give my students hands-on science opportunities. As IB students we learn by inquiring. Students who can investigate concepts and collaborate to understand will bring science to life and help make real life connections.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students' day consists of much wonder and inquiry. We truly believe that in order for them to internalize knowledge, they must find it on their own and make connections to the content and their world. We try to do this every day through real world experiences and resources.
Our school is an International Baccalaureate accredited school.
What makes us unique is that we are an inner-city school with a very diverse population. Our diversity is not only cultural, but socioeconomic as well. We have a strong sense of community and encourage our students to live the IB learner profiles. While some of our students have traveled the world, we also have students who have never left the neighborhood. Our ability to teach acceptance through the IB curriculum makes us unique.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in the students ability to make connections by hands on opportunities. As an IB school we do not use text books. We require students to inquire and investigate concepts. To make this more fun, we can give students products that guide them to discover and build a love for science.
I know it is always more exciting when there is an experiment to to with a concept.
I loop with my class from 4th to 5th and therefore have chosen a variety of items that covers two years of inquiry into science and social studies concepts. These items will enhance the learning of my students.
The globe will be used to identity places in our world where we will discover where natives lived. The books will supplement those concepts. All of the solar system items will allow my students to have a variety of ways to understand how the world works.
