This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 4th students are interested in the world. They are inquisitive and full of wonder. They are at such an important age where they still love school and love learning. Scholastic News will take these inner-city children out into the world where they can be exposed to current and historical events.
I want to make sure my students to continue to be excited about learning.
I think that this is so important with this high poverty, inner-city population. This project can help make that happen.
My Project
These Scholastic News Magazines will get my students interested in current events. The magazines are colorful and engaging. Students will be actively reading nonfiction and enjoying it. We can have student-led class discussions about what they have read and what is going on in the world. We can also talk about different nonfiction text features as they are reading Scholastic.
My students will enjoy learning about the world around them while reading the kid-friendly, age-appropriate articles they can understand.
This is important so that they build the necessary interest to become informed adults who want to stay informed on current events.
