My Students

Our middle school students are avid readers of books from graphic novels to nonfiction. Our circulation rates continue to grow year after year. Reading is an important part of our school culture, and language arts classes incorporate regular free reading time into their classes. When our school was abruptly forced to switch to remote learning in March of 2020, thousands of library books were checked out to students, and hundreds never made it back. In addition, our community experienced a natural disaster (derecho) that delayed the start of our 20-21 school year for a month.

Due to the combination of the pandemic and the derecho, our school library lost almost 300 books during the 19-20 school year, totaling approximately $4,000.

This includes many popular titles, classics, and books from the middle of many favorite series.

In order to keep up with this love of reading and replace the many lost books, our school library needs your help! The titles requested for this project include replacement copies for many favorites that were lost during the pandemic and derecho. These titles will fill the gaps for series and make sure students continue to have access to the books they want to read!

My Project

Our school community values and supports reading. During normal school years, our library is a thriving hub of learning and literacy. Losing so many books is a major setback for our collection, one that students have noticeably felt already when books are missing from the series they want to read.

Adding these titles back into our library collection will help ensure that students continue to have access to the books they love and want to read.

Having a book for every reader is a goal of our library, and replacing these titles will help us keep working to reach that goal.
