Help me give my students quality sets of handbells, enough for a whole class, so that students at every grade level can develop their rhythmic and melodic performance skills, physical coordination, listening skills, and music reading.
My students are K-5th graders in a growing and thriving elementary school in California. My school is one of a few in my district to enjoy a music program, and my students are delighted to include my Kodaly-inspired curriculum as part of their education and development.
My students work together to create, develop and perform beautiful music.
They enjoy using my large open-plan classroom to learn through dancing, singing and playing instruments, enjoying embracing the space for expressive music and movement. My students bring experiences, ideas and knowledge from all over the world to share enthusiastically with each other.
My Project
Music education is an effective way to foster confidence, determination, teamwork, creativity, reading and writing skills, communication, and patience. With this project, I am working toward increasing the types of classroom instruments I can use to help my students grow as musicians.
Handbells are a wonderful way for students to develop musical techniques such as melodic and music reading skills, rhythmic skills, physical coordination, and listening skills, all while making beautiful music together.
The handbells I have chosen for this project are perfect, because they are color coded, have the note names on the handle, and can be used as regular handbells or as desk-bells. Because of the color coding, even students as young as kindergarten age could learn to perform beautiful handbell music! My students have different physical ability levels, and having the option of playing on a desk or other flat surface will support all students in keeping a beat successfully.
