Ah, sixth grade. The awkward years and figuring out who you want to be in life, and hopefully following your calling instead of just following your peers. I love this age! And I love getting my kids out of their comfort zones and being silly! While my students are beginning to mature, I make sure to remind them that it is okay to still be a kid sometimes.
I love seeing my students smiling and having fun, but, unfortunately, at this age, it is not always a common site.
With almost half of my students coming from Title I schools, mornings can be rough. A lot of my students come in late and less than enthused to be at school. So I make it my top priority to bring joy into their lives in any way that I can, even if it is just getting them to smile before entering my classroom.
My Project
This project is solely for students who are not able to participate in any type of Music classes here at the Academy. Whether their parents were not able to afford the instruments that are required for Band/Orchestra or they simply were not interested in furthering their education in the arts, these kiddos are missing out on the plethora of benefits that Music Education provides.
Music Programs have been proven not only to boost self-esteem levels but also graduation and attendance rates; how are we helping those who cannot afford these programs?
Here at the Academy, those students who do not take any Music courses are automatically placed into a "Discovery" class, where they are introduced to a wide variety of topics. By donating to this project, you would be helping me to incorporate music into Discovery, ultimately allowing ALL students to reap the benefits of music.
