This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in MO. These students have a thirst for knowledge, acceptance, and unconditional love. Many of my students have limited or below grade-level language expectations for receptive and expressive communication. Additionally, many of my high school students are reading at a 2nd-3rd grade level and need explicit instruction in language while addressing grade-level standards. It is my top priority to prepare my students for life after high school. Through a shared philosophy, my fellow Deaf educators and I have hosted presentations from successful Deaf individuals in the community, including Gallaudet University to motivate and inspire our DHH students. I believe "Deaf Can", and I need YOUR help to provide my students with meaningful instruction through rich language curriculum and supplemental supplies.
My Project
Please help me reach my goal in order to bring meaningful language to my students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Many of my students are reading at a 2-3rd grade reading level in high school and want to achieve wonderful things! One of my students aspires to be an accountant after high school, but without the understanding of social, academic, and career language, my student will continue to struggle to reach their dream and become accepted in college! Being a teacher of the Deaf means I must differentiate for my students who are at different learning levels. Using curriculums and programs such as Brain Pop, Flocabulary, and life-skills games will bring meaningful, hands-on activities for my students to continue to reach milestones. Help me, help my students to succeed! Deaf CAN!
