Do you remember how excited you were the first time someone played a video tape they'd taken of you? My students LOVE to be creative and animated and they learn best from one another when given the chance to interact. I want to get kids behind the camera, writing scripts, and creating lessons!
My students are busy third graders.
Most of them have grown up using all sorts of technology. Lessons incorporating video, photos, and their very own voices are much more likely to engage them and help them learn. Not only will my class benefit, but the entire student body can become involved in creating lessons that are interactive and meaningful. Imagine the cross grade level interactions that can take place! My students live in a middle-class neighborhood. Many of them have two working parents. They are always anxious to be doing, rather than just observing.
My Project
Flip video cameras allow for a multitude of possibilities! Students will be able to create presentations in which they incorporate their writing, illustrating, actions, voices, and creativity. Gone are the days of expecting students to simply read from a text and answer questions. These cameras will allow students to demonstrate their knowledge in new and inspiring ways. For those who don't do well with traditional tests, they'll get the opportunity to succeed and reach their goals in new ways. Learning to work together to create projects is a valuable skills. How much more fascinating a boring lesson will become when it's presented in a familiar and engaging context.
As previously stated, my students will benefit in a variety of ways.
We live in an age of quickly changing technology. Giving students the skills to learn while utilizing all available technology will help them succeed in life. Learning should not only be relevant, but also fun. I can't imagine a better way to create a positive learning environment than to get students moving and working together. Please help me reach this goal!
