Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is filled with many eager learners who can't wait to explore the world around them. My students love hands-on experiences providing them the ability to manipulate their learning. Their favorite activities are manipulating science experiments and creating things in the science center using tape, recycled boxes, crafts sticks, glue, and yarn, and more recently engineering their own bridges! This desire to get their hands on things makes them the best candidates for augmented reality!
Our class is comprised of 27 amazing students, many of whom come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced price lunch.
We are provided basic furniture (tables, chairs) but not funding that would allow us to explore this amazing new tool. Support in the form of this grant will make it possible!
"No way!" These were the words some students exclaimed this year as they took part in one of our many science exploration activities. Witnessing the joy that 1st grade students experience from using basic tools and equipment for the first time is thrilling as a teacher. Having engaged student learning is a priority in our class and the very reason augmented reality learning could enhance their day to day learning excitement!
My Project
Funding of this grant will allow me to purchase a supplemental reading and math suite called Learning Alive to help my students improve their reading and math skills.
The objective of our Learning Alive Program is to help beginning and at-risk students improve their literacy and math skills so they can perform at grade level and master the basics to succeed in subsequent grades.
We expect to see dramatic improvements with most of the students increasing their reading and math ability significantly. The Learning Alive Program provides students with access to the advanced technology of augmented reality and brings learning to "life"!
