My students need individual copies of the book Out of My Mind to read along during our class read aloud and be able to find evidence to support their inferences.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 5th graders are becoming engaged readers who are learning to engage in critical thinking and discussions. This highly energetic group of students includes GATE students, English learners, and special education students. They have become lovers of all genres of text.
My school is a Title 1 school and many of my 5th graders come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced lunch.
They have limited access to books and school supplies at home. I try to provide opportunities for them to be exposed to a variety of text to expand their life experiences and develop their character and social emotional skills.
My Project
By funding this project, each student will be given a copy of the book, Out of My Mind, to read along with me as I read aloud. The students have been working on developing reading comprehension strategies all year. The students have asked me if I have any books they can read with me. By providing them a copy of the book, Out Of My Mind, it will be stored in their reading book boxes and they will have it available for better discussions and to support their comprehension with evidence from the book.
With an individual copy of the book, Out of My Mind, students will be able to reread sections of the book and use the book in small group discussions.
Students who choose will be able to take the book home to reread the book independently after the read aloud is complete. Our school lacks the funds to purchase class sets of books, so this will be my first class set of a read-aloud book.
