Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very deserving and thankful for every opportunity given to them. I teach Mathematics in rural Alabama middle school that serves approximately 900 student. 50% of our students are minority students. 100% of our students receive free school breakfast and lunch and some students receive food over the weekend through a volunteer based Blessings in a Backpack program. Despite many hardships and obstacles, my students are hard-working and determined to succeed. Your donation helps my bright students grow into everything they are capable of becoming! Thank you!
My Project
Mathematics education is so much more than working problem after problem in a textbook or from a worksheet! Students learn best when they can use hands on manipulatives and create projects which help them understand how math applies to the world around them and their daily lives. Unfortunately, many students cannot afford to purchase basic school supplies. This is my first full year in a new school system and I am trying to stock up on basic school supplies for classroom group projects and interactive learning.
In this project, I am asking for: a classroom set of colored pencils and markers for graphing systems of equations projects, ink for the classroom printer so that students can print individual tutorials, batteries for our classroom set of calculators for math learning, a class set of scissors for cutting foldables and tangrams, and a classroom set of protractors for geometry skills.
One of my students last semester asked "Why would someone give us materials when they don't even know us?" My answer was "because they believe in you as much as I do." Thank you so much for supporting public education! Your donation truly does make a difference!
