Jaszmine, Deja, Madison, Cindy, Jessica, Noah, James, Arielle, Gavin, Keith, Avery, Nate, Xavier, Obie, and others led the way with the creation of this project. This group is intelligent, eager to learn, and creative.
When I announced the idea of a student led project, we divided the class into 8 groups. The students brain-stormed possible projects. Once we had 8 different ideas, each group presented why their project was crucial. After hearing each group, we voted as a class and picked the project with the most votes.
This project has already developed their ability to collaborate, set agendas and present proposals in order to create this project. If the project comes to fruition, my students will improve their science skills, including biology, chemistry concepts, vocabulary development many more.
Students will work in teams to apply theoretical concepts learned in the Medical Science to real-life problem-solving applications. Students will learn how to test urine samples using the kits. They will learn about how kidneys function in a human body. Students will follow the 5 core values to respect, lead, collaborate among each other.
In Their Own Words
I want to be able to do what healthcare professionals do in hospital labs. I wonder how kidneys function. I am also curious to know how urine samples are tested for various deficiencies, etc. My teammates and I want to know and practice the theoretical concepts learned to real-life problem solving applications.
I will apply what Ms. Kaur taught my peers and I to a real-world example. In my class, there are teams of 8. Each team will have a leader who will direct and support 4 other teammates throughout the experiments. Throughout the experiments, different people will have opportunities to lead.
This project is important to me and my Medical Science community because we will be able to simulate how healthcare professionals solve problems and how they test human bodily fluid samples for various deficiencies, disorders and diseases. My teammates and I will be able to utilize the skills in our community.
