My students need a mini fridge to store our class food projects and a microwave to heat up others. We use food in our classes to make novels truly delicious!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a vibrant and engaging group of 8th graders, intent on setting the world straight. We are readers, writers, speakers and critical thinkers. Our school is over 40% Socio Economically disadvantaged with over 50% of our students enrolled in the free or reduced lunch program.
In October our community was hit by the devastating fires that swept across Santa Rosa.
In the face of such devastation, our students shouldered the burden and demonstrated their resiliency and above all their desire to continue learning. While our school was closed for three weeks, teachers, students and their families evacuated and sought shelter amid the flames. Many of our staff and students lost everything in the fires. But above all and in spite of this terrifying destruction, our campus remains a kind, caring and generous one. Our students stand up for what is right and continue to support our community with donations and drives.
My Project
In our room, we love reading, but even more so, we love eating. What better way to show our understandings of a novel by pairing our love of food and reading? In order to do this, we need a safe and convenient place to store our food and another to heat it back up again. The mini fridge and the microwave are just the tools we need to bring food projects into our English classroom. Reading Shakespeare? With these two we can nuke a mini Shakespearean feast! How fun and relevant it is it to read a novel and then eat!
