Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a school in the southwest side of Chicago. The school I work at has a large population of Latino student whose first language is Spanish. In the years I have worked as a teacher, the students I have had come in every day with a lot of energy, with many questions and ready to learn.

Fourth grade is a very exciting year for students.

Throughout the fourth grade, students learn to become independent learners. Furthermore, throughout the fourth grade, students become exposed to many different text genres and develop many reading and writing skills.

One of the very exciting things about being in fourth grade is that students become independent readers. By the end of fourth grade, students leave having been exposed to many different genres of books. They also leave the fourth-grade loving books and having learned new reading and writing strategies.

My Project

I have a working printer in my classroom; however, we go through ink cartridges pretty quickly. The last few ink cartridges I have used my own money to purchase. It's getting very costly to me, but I want my students to be able to print what they need. Students print out their writing such as research papers, opinion pieces, persuasive essays and their narratives as well as progress reports with their grades. I would love to have a printer were students can print their work without thinking how costly it would be. Also, I print out visuals to use in the classroom anchor charts, labels for the classroom library, or even labels to label things in the classroom.

Receiving ink cartridges for my classroom will be very beneficial to my students.

Rather than having to print from home (many do not have this option) or find a friend or family member with a working computer and printer, they will be able to print from our classroom.
