Technology is everywhere and is used in almost every part of our culture. From cell phones, to tablets, to ordering online- technology is needed in day to day life. It only makes sense that our schools are also effectively using mobile technology in the classroom.
My district works very hard to enhance student learning, but we are not yet a school that has 1:1 technology .My school has a Maker Space in the library where students have access to a few coding robots.
My group of students must share access with the rest of the school. This means that my students only have access to this technology once a week for 60 minutes. That is not enough time to help my students become technologically literate in this rapidly changing world. Three fourths of the students in my district receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students come from hard working homes where the parents do not have money left over for extra things such as books or the latest technology, yet these are the very things that my students need to ignite the passion for learning.
My Project
Robotics is the next step in education to get students moving, thinking, and coding. Students need more technology than a computer screen to be prepared for today's world. Robotics move students away from a solitary computer screen and into an active social community. With the addition of 4 Botley coding robots, my students could build, measure, follow, run, and skip beside their robot as it trekked through an obstacle course designed by the group.
Coding robots could be used to enhance students' skills in science, math, and the arts.
STEM learning is critical for students today. Children love to create. Robotics values ingenuity and the limitless possibilities of creation!
