Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Everyday our class declares, "Knowledge is my path to choice." We spend 90 minutes on English alone, so bringing art supplies into the classroom will provide my kids with more choice in class. My kids need knowledge of more than just English, and art is a beautiful vehicle for knowledge.
My kids are caring, giving, thoughtful and passionate individuals living in CA.
All my students have special needs and many are 3+ years behind by the time they reach the 6th grade. Because they are so far behind, they spend nearly all day in English or Math class. I believe they are missing a holistic education and falling farther behind. This year I will incorporate things like art into their English lessons in order to ensure they can really grow in ways beyond just core subjects. They crave fun activities and when given the opportunity, their creativity flourishes. Support this project and support their growth!
My Project
I'm asking for simple art materials that my students cannot afford. These are the very same supplies I bought every year before school. My kids need markers, glue, scissors, and a place to store it all (so they don't lose everything) so we can engage in even the simplest of art projects. Many of my students have trouble understanding auditory concepts; these supplies will allow them a hands on approach to learning and by color-coding, cutting and organizing, they will learn and retain more all the while having FUN and gaining confidence.
Gifting my kids with the simple tools to color, cut, and glue will open up a large variety of windows for them to engage deeper into their learning.
