The students in FUSE are the truest representation of Lincoln Park High School's incredibly diverse student body. We reflect in our students the diversity of Lincoln Park High School, and Chicago itself. FUSE is a completely inclusive STREAM program, affiliated with our esteemed partners at Northwestern University, and, specific to the FUSE studio at LPHS, Milwaukee School of Engineering's Center of Biomolecular Modeling. We provide a unique, engaging, and supportive environment for students to pursue their interests using 21st century skills and technologies.
To date, students from every area, level, and demographic of LPHS, from Honors to IB and AP, brown, black, beige, male, female, and everything in between have created over 1000 instructional models currently used in science, English, History, and Mathematics classes across the building.
We have earned great recognition for our work, receiving honorable mention for our performance in MSOE's "Modelling a Protein Story" competition, and second place at Northwestern's High School Project Showcase. We have presented at scientific conferences, art expositions, and teacher professional development workshops.
My Project
Our premier STEAM studio, FUSE@LPHS, has successfully developed over 1000 models of molecules, proteins, cells, bones, organs, sculptures, models, and much more!
The interest has increased exponentially.
Now, not only are students in our team using 3D printing, but multiple teachers, classrooms and departments are interested in developing models as a way to explore academic concepts. Also, as Personal Project expands, more students want to incorporate 3D printing into their projects. This means more than 700 students and 45 teachers want to get into the world of 3D printing!
While we have the interest and skills, our current printer is not up to the increased load. Help us bring this amazing technology, and all of the fun and learning it can provide, to all students!
