Help me give my students in my school a vending machine that dispenses books to support their love of reading and reinforce positive behaviors at our school.
The students at our school have so many strengths. They come from diverse backgrounds but, find common ground when it comes for their desire to learn. They wear their hearts on their sleeves, love to show kindness, and they just love everything there is about school.... and work so hard to learn!
Our students are eager to learn every day and come to school in person or online ready to work hard.
They are striving to learn despite the complicated circumstances this school year. Where they shine the most is how they work on showing our character traits responsibility and respect!
My Project
There’s something uniquely fun about sliding a coin into a vending machine and getting a treasure from inside. Sometimes it’s a candy bar, a bag of chips, or a soda. At our school we want this treasure to be a new book!
We hope to purchase a book vending machine to help reinforce positive behavior at our school and create a love for reading!
We would plan to distribute “golden coins” to classroom teachers. Classroom teachers will then set positive behavior goals for their students. When students reach these goals, they will earn a golden coin and a trip to the book vending machine. This will effectively reinforce their positive behavior and create excitement around reading!
Schools that have received these book vending machines have found that it increases the community bond in school and research has shown that the amount of books children have at home influences their reading achievement.
In order to make this happen, there are several expenses. After the initial purchase, our school PTO and Book Fair proceeds will provide sustaining funding for additional books.
