My Students

Even as adults, many of us can remember the great books that we read as children. It is wonderful to see that my second grade students enjoy some of the same books that I did when I was their age.

I teach an all boys second grade class.

Our school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and the majority of our students receive a free lunch. My boys are determined to succeed and put forth tremendous effort in their academics. They are a wonderful group of children who deserve a quality education.

My Project

The majority of my students are English Language Learners. In fact, most of them were not even exposed to English until they started school. However, my students are still expected to perform at the same level as their English speaking peers across the country. Research supports that read-acquisition improve students' fluency, vocabulary acquisition, and comprehension. By being able to follow along in a text while the story is read to them, my students can focus more on comprehension and the enjoyment of reading.
