Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth graders live in a primarily working class and immigrant neighborhood that is currently going through some demographic changes. Some of my students are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, and they all love to learn.
Our motto is, "The world is changing, and change starts with me." At our film and communication school that serves grades 2-6, our students share their learning with the school community and the surrounding neighborhood as they host student film festivals, project museums, and special events like book battles.
My Project
Nothing feels better than the first day of school. The whole year is full of possibilities--new friends and new learning experiences. The best way to start the new year is with a cupboard full of supplies!
We are asking for basic school supplies to start the new year in the fall.
Every day we will use the pencils, colored paper, and glue sticks for daily exercises in English language arts, science, social studies, and math. My students will fill the drawing paper and watercolor paper using colored pencils as we explore concepts in art. The zipper pouches will be a handy place to fit all their new supplies. We are also asking for sample workbook journals from early grade levels for reviewing basic skills. My students and I thank you!
