My students need a light table and manipulatives to engage them in hands-on learning of academic concepts such as alphabet, number, color, and shape recognition.
My integrated early childhood classroom is composed of enthusiastic learners, with many different interests and abilities. Half of my students have an individualized education plan based on a developmental disability, and half do not. There is also a two year age span among the students. Included in the many interests of the class, there are several students that love to build and design structures, some love art and writing, and some love to learn through music. All of my students have a great love for books, and learning everything they can from them.
This year our class has become a very strong and caring classroom community.
Many of my students are learning skills to get ready for kindergarten, such as alphabet recognition, counting, and writing their name. Others are learning how to take turns and form sounds. Above and beyond that, they have all learned to treat one another with love and respect. It has been a joy to see each of them build such a strong foundation of social skills that will last them for a lifetime.
My Project
My students learn best through a combination of play and hands- on opportunities with manipulatives. A light table will provide them with endless opportunities for science, math, literacy, open-ended-play, and discovery experiences. Several of my students have short attention spans, and the calming glow of the light table will help them stay and play for longer periods of time.
My students are a shining light in this world with their kindness and eagerness to learn.
A light table will help their lights shine even brighter with it's many opportunities to extend learning.
This donation will provide sensory-based and open-ended play experiences that will not only help my students learn academic concepts, but also help those that are working on foundational skills such as taking turns and communication.
