My fifth grade students are very special to me for many reasons. They are very independent, full of energy, and passionate young learners. Being independent and having a love for learning are very important assets that I like to instill in my students since they will be going to the middle school next year in which being independent and passionate will help them thrive and succeed. My students are in a fast paced learning environment and organization is key to success.
Many of our students have special needs or accommodations and need to feel comfortable in the classroom, by having the necessary tools, equipment, and materials to keep them engaged and successful.
A majority of our students in our Title 1 school, come from low income families with limited resources due to our small rural community. My students are creative, energetic, and enjoy exploring the scientific world. Many of them are only able to experience that at school due to limitations at home. I want my students to be successful and have the materials and support that they need in order to be life long learners and become the little scientists they long to be!
My Project
My fifth grade classroom has very old and worn chairs that have been used for numerous years. My students and our little classroom are growing and changing and are in need of something new, bright, colorful, and comfortable. These chairs would not only make the students feel comfortable but would allow for more flexible seating.
Having new chairs in the fifth grade will be a lively assest to our classroom because they will provide my students with more support and allow them to fit comfortably.
The classroom chairs will fit our fifth graders better because they are growing and are the largest in our school. Many students feel uncomfortable in our smaller chairs that are low to the ground and they can hardly fit in them. Our students that have special needs and accommodations will also have the stability and comfort that they need.
A majority of the chairs in our classroom are so worn that they squeak when they move around because they are missing screws or bottoms, which scrape into the floor causing damage. The bright colors will liven up the classroom and make it enjoyable for the students to learn and actively participate in lessons, activities, and experiments.
