Bridging the Math Gap Caused by Last Spring's School Closing
Help me give my students increase their math fluency skills since many students are missing the skills in math that they would have worked on last spring had school not closed last spring.
My fifth classroom is comprised of 15 students, because of COVID-19 restrictions 15 students is all I can have in my classroom. Fifty percent of my population is Hispanic and approximately 60% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch program, which also qualifies them for the free use of district supplied Chromebook hotspot to complete the classroom at home. The home life for my students is very diverse. Less than half of my students come from two-parent homes, but most come from single-parent homes. We were sent home to remote learning last spring, and as a result my students this year are lower in math than they would be normally.
My Project
When my students were forced to go remote in March of 2020, many were unable to access learning from home due to many difficulties that were not their fault. As a result, they have gaps in their mathematical fluency for multiplication and division. I found Reflex math, an online math program that builds this math fluency in my students. I began with a free trial and my students are loving the program, but more importantly, they are telling me how much they have learned. I have students telling me, with huge smiles on their faces, that they are learning so many more of their math facts with this program.
My students are already having success with this trial, I want to continue their success and their self-confidence.
The purchase of the year long subscription will ensure my students success with their math fluency skills.
