My Students

Welcome! Thank you for your consideration in supporting the Arts! Our school is a pre-kindergarten through sixth grade elementary school located in Omaha Nebraska. Our school has an exceptionally diverse population of students from all different backgrounds with more than fifteen various languages spoken. This gives our whole school a chance to embrace and learn about one another. Despite many socioeconomic and personal challenges in their lives, students come to school each day smiling and eager to learn.

My students appreciate hands-on learning, and are enthusiastic lovers of different mediums of art.

They have a sense of pride in their individual creations and they flourish when allowed to express themselves through the arts. We are a diverse group of learners, coming from different cultures and family structures. In my classroom we build a respectful community of learners by practicing mindfulness each day.

My Project

When combined, art and literacy can have a tremendous impact on learning. This is why so many of the lessons I teach are directly connected to books. When we use literature as an art lesson component, students often remember the story and are able to recall information as we progress.

In my class, literacy is greatly encouraged through a classroom library, vocabulary wall, writing activities, and numerous visual literacy activities.

Due to limited space in our art portable, the new bookshelf will give us an easy way to display and access our library. The new books will provide a more diverse collection of texts for all different grade levels and reading abilities. Having a variety of texts will help build interest in new subject areas students may not have been introduced to previously. Please help us to explore and to gain a greater interest in Literacy!
