My students need to improve language skills with writing, language, foundational skills, informational texts, and literature learning centers for common core standards.
The students in my reading class are working hard every day to learn how to read. They are 3rd graders who have many obstacles to overcome to attain their goal and fulfill a dream to read! Their biggest challenge in learning to read is the lack of basic foundational skills. They are hard workers!
My 3rd grade students come from a high poverty area in our city.
Our school is a high poverty school. My students are hard workers who really want to read! Many don't have the help at home they need to reach their goal to read. So we have to work super hard in class so they can learn to read! All the students in my class are 1 to 2 grade levels below in their reading ability. Some of my students have disabilities hindering them from learning to read, but we are not going to let those disabilities hold us back as we are moving forward to close those gaps in our reading! Some are making huge gains while some are taking baby steps! We are all working hard to achieve our goal to read!
My Project
I envision my students working in small centers to use these materials to make learning fun. I am looking for ways to excite them about reading. I want them to see the importance of learning to read. This learning center set has activities to work on in many areas in reading--writing, language, foundational skills, and informational texts as well as literature. Each center is designed to provide hands-on practice of common core skills that my students desperately need. I believe my students will be thrilled to practice these vital skills in a fun and exciting way!
Donations made to this project will provide a group of high energy students with fun and exciting hands-on activities to teach them reading skills and the ability to master the difficult common core standards before them.
These reading skills and standards could provide some of my students the opportunity to reach their goal to one day attend college and maybe one day pay it forward!
